Match Around has been launched today

Together with Everybody Likes Penguins I developed an app, Match Around, which has been launched today. The app is all about flirting and meeting new people and it’s as simple as going out, enabling te flirt-mode and opening a chat-session when you’ve been matched with that significant other.

I’m in charge of all the technical aspects of this project, from app making to the server-side matching mechanism. It was a lot of fun, for me the first time to build an app with so much different aspects.

The matches are made entirely server-side, the client’s iPhone only features as a window to view matches and to participate in chat. Variables such as age, gender and preference determine how well people match. Also, together we developed a matching system based on what users like on Facebook.

Every user logs in via Facebook and we gather the most recent likes, the things they have indicated as interesting via the “I Like” buttons on Facebook. For users, these likes are matchec against each other: one like in common means one point towards a better match. Of concurrent users, the one with the most points is the better match, of course.

It was fun programming an application this way and I really look forward to seeing the actual results and matches appear.

Match Around got featured on Frankwatching, “Flirten anno 2011″, iPhoneClub.nl and Contentgirls, “Match Around”, yay!
